God showed me something yesterday in an interesting way, I’d like to share it with you today.
My sister and I had to take Mom’s husband to an appointment at the hospital. This hospital has a large parking garage with several levels. We had to park on the level for the Medical Mall and go through those doors for his procedure. There were large letters above the elevators that said, Medical Mall. It was easy to locate by just watching for the signs.
We parked, walked through the door and through the breezeway that took us to registration. Easy peasy. After a few hours, he was finished and my sister and I headed back to the vehicle to pull around to pick them up, or so we thought.
We walked through the hospital, the same way we had come in earlier. Walked through a breezeway and into the parking garage. Upon reaching the parking garage, we both came to a halt. We looked around and realized this was NOT where we had come in. There was no sign that for the Medical Mall to be found. We knew we were in the wrong place.
As we looked around, we realized there were two breezeways – one was ahead of us, and we had come through the wrong one. We weren’t sure how to get back to our vehicle, so we asked an employee and they pointed us in the right direction.
I said to my sister, “I don’t know how to get to the vehicle, but I certainly know we are in not in the right place.”
Have you ever felt that way spiritually? Have you ever felt that you weren’t sure which way to go but you knew this place wasn’t it? That’s the thoughts that came to me as I stood there looking around at our surroundings.
So many times, in my walk with the Lord I have been headed in a direction when I suddenly felt like I didn’t know which way to go. I knew where I wanted to arrive at, but I didn’t always know how to get there. It can be very confusing. Perhaps you are there today. Perhaps God has called you to go to a certain place, either physically or spiritually but you are not sure how to get there.
Sometimes you must do what we did and ask for direction or guidance.
James 1:5 says, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Once we asked for directions, we looked ahead and realized we had made just one wrong turn. That one wrong turn took us through the wrong breezeway and out the wrong door, which lead us to the wrong area.
It reminded me of a time I was driving to Tulsa to be a guest on a television show. On the drive, I kept feeling like something was wrong. I felt like I had gotten off track somehow. Since I had a long, long drive, I began to pray and seek God. He spoke to my heart and said, “Go back to where you missed me and start again.” He also showed me where I had missed Him. He gave me wisdom when I asked just as the scripture said.
He wasn’t even mad at me for going the wrong way, or for missing His direction. He simply pointed me back in the right direction. God is so good and so gracious. Even when we miss it, He still loves us and still gives us wisdom and direction.
I don’t know where you find yourself today. Perhaps you are going the wrong way. Or maybe you feel like you know where you are going but you don’t know exactly how to get there. Ask God. Ask Him for wisdom. He is happy to give it to you and put you on the right track. He has a plan for your life, and He will fulfill that plan – just ask. And…be sure to enjoy the journey!
