For the past few weeks, my Pastors have been teaching on the Holy Spirit. They have taught it from several different viewpoints, and it has been quite illuminating. It has also caused my mind to be focused on Holy Spirit a lot.
Wednesday night when I left church, I had an interesting encounter with Holy Spirit on my drive home. As I believe the Holy Spirit is drawing people near in this hour, I want to share my experience with you.
First let me say, I do believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Sometimes I pray in the spirit, when I don’t know what to pray, as the Bible says. Sometimes I pray in the spirit because I know the spirit knows more about my situation than I do.
Still, sometimes, the Holy Spirit comes upon me and compels me to pray in the spirit. That was what happened that night. I pulled out of the church parking lot and started down the highway toward home. I immediately began to pray in the spirit, forcefully. I prayed that way for about 20 minutes. Because I hadn’t eaten that day, I stopped at a drive thru and grabbed a snack. I got back on the road toward home. Again, I began praying in the spirit with fervency.
About that time, my phone rang, it was my grandson. I wanted to make sure he was okay, so I answered. He was fine, we hung up and I went back to praying. As soon as I finished praying in the spirit, I began to speak in English. It strongly felt like the interpretation of what I had been praying in the spirit – this has happened to me a couple times.
I remember Ms. Ronnie Burch, who was over prayer at Norvel Hayes Ministries, often told me that when you pray in the spirit, you can ask God to give you the interpretation of what you are praying. I have asked for that often, however, I feel I have only received the interpretation a few times, this being one of those.
When I began to speak in English, it was in question form. The questions were…
“When Holy Spirit shows up, does healing not take place?”
“When Holy Spirit shows up, do miracles not take place?”
“When Holy Spirit shows up, does restoration not take place?”
“When Holy Spirit shows up, does lack not flee?”
The questions went on and on. I felt God was saying, when the Holy Spirit shows up, these things most definitely take place.
It felt a lot like how God answered Job in chapter 38.
I shared that to say this; Holy Spirit is drawing people to Himself. He is saying, if you invite me in, things will happen. If you make room for Me, I can work in your life.
As I thought about all this today, in my mind, I searched through the Bible to see if there was any time, Holy Spirit, Jesus or God showed up that things didn’t change drastically. I couldn’t find any, at least not where I searched.
Think about the day of Pentecost. In Acts 2, when Holy Spirit showed up, it was powerful. And the power remained for years.
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Many people were saved, delivered, and set free that day. Things changed. And they changed drastically. That same Holy Spirit is wanting to be active in your life. Invite Him into your situation today. Ask Him to make His abode in your life and the life of your family. He longs to dwell with you, speak with you, work on your behalf. He is calling…He is speaking, don’t miss this time of visitation.
