A phrase came to mind this morning; one I haven’t been able to stop thinking about. The phrase is, “Write your own story.”
In my mind, I pictured a book, I was looking at the biography on the book and what it said about the author. I felt the Lord asked me, “What do you want your story to say?”
I began to think about Enoch. His story is short, but to me, one of the most powerful biographies in the Bible. The Bible says, “Enoch walked with God and then he was not.” This man walked with God.
Perhaps I began to think about this as I read about Marilyn Hickey going home to be with the Lord. The story she wrote of herself is a powerful testimony to God and His faithfulness.
Then I thought about Abraham. His story was astounding too.
And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God. (Romans 4:19-20)
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore. (Heb 11:8-12) Abraham, and him as good as dead, produced a son, just as God said He would, by FAITH.
So here is the thought for the day. If your biography was written today, what would it say?
Would it say you walked in faith and trusted God until the very end? Would it be written that you believed what God promised even when it seemed impossible? If your story were written today, would it say you did all God led you to do, that you left nothing undone?
I can tell you this, if my story were written today, I would not be happy with it. I have not pursued God to the degree I long to. I have not yet seen the miracles, signs and wonders the Bible promised. Yes, I have seen healing and miracles but not to the degree the word of God promises.
I have not yet walked in the fulness of the wholeness Jesus died to give me. I have not yet been saturated in the manifest, tangible presence of God to the degree I long to. No, I am not yet ready for my story to be written. However, this thought today has prompted me to press toward the story I long to be written about me.
My friend, today, I want you to think about this. Ask yourself, “What do I want my story to say?” And then I pray you to begin to walk in the story you want to see written.
May your story be that you were a person of great faith, like Abraham. That you were a person who, like David, was daily after the heart of God. May your story be like Enoch, that you walked daily with God. May your story be one of the greatest faith stories of our time – that is my prayer for you and for me.
Thank you, Kim, for your encouragement this morning. I woke this morning to Holy Spirit telling me, “Pay attention to the desires of your heart.” And the implication was to pay attention to what I was spending the hours of my days doing. Am I passing time or pursuing the desires of my heart put there by the Lord God? I’m afraid I’ve been doing much more of the former and this morning I am convicted to realign with God and again earnestly seek his will and guidance in my life and answer these deep questions. He assures us when we seek and ask, He will answer. Blessings for your day, Kim!
