God spoke something to me this week that was very profound. Something I have never really thought of even though I love gardening and love to watch seeds grow.
He said, “Seeds grow in the darkness.”
Allow me to share with you the context of this conversation.
I was talking with a friend about some things God has recently revealed and how things get planted in our lives. I shared with her some things that my mom has always said about me. Not bad things, she meant them as a complement, however, those words, those seeds went deep into my heart and have continued to grow throughout my life. I never knew, until now, that these were words I needed to deal with and break off my life.
The words were about me being a survivor. While I know my mom meant it as a compliment and was simply saying I could always come through anything – those words have kept me in a state of survival all my life. God doesn’t want that for me; He wants His children to thrive and not just survive.
I thought about those words that were spoken over me continually, even as a young child, that is when God said, “Seeds grow in the darkness.” What He was saying to me is that the enemy took advantage of those words, those seeds and took every opportunity to cause those seeds/ words to grow – until it became my mode of thinking. It was the enemy’s plan that I would think about survival and not thriving.
I hope that makes sense to you. Some things God tells me are clear as day to me, yet hard to explain in a short writing.
God is saying, there are some words that have been spoken to you or over you that have been allowed to grow in the darkness. It’s time to bring those words out into the LIGHT of God’s word and demolish any words or seeds that are not of Him or that do not line up with His word and what He says about you.
You see, the enemy hopes we keep those words and thoughts in the darkness so they can continue to grow. However, once the light of God’s word shines on them, they lose all power.
God wants to reveal to you what His word says about you, what He says about you and empower you to walk in that truth.
Deuteronomy 29:29 says; The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever.
It’s time we allow God to reveal His truth about us to our heart and our mind. It’s time we dig up every seed the enemy has sown, that has grown in the dark recesses of our thought life. It’s time to cast them out and replace them with who we are in Christ.
God’s word does not say He sent Jesus to the earth so I could survive anything the enemy sent my way. No! He said, Jesus came that I might have and enjoy life to the full, until it overflows. He came that I might have an abundant life. He said He has a good plan for me, one for good and not for evil. That is what God says about me.
How about you? What negative words or seeds have been sown in the hidden places of your heart? What words have been allowed to grow in the dark places? What thoughts that do not line up with God’s word have become part of what you think about yourself and God’s plan for you?
My friend, if those words or seeds are not what God says about you or your situation, dig them up and toss them out. Replace them with what God says about you and begin to walk in the fulness of all that Jesus died to give you. Refuse to allow seeds of the enemy to grow in the darkness – pull them up and cast them aside.
It’s time for us to thrive and not only survive – I encourage you to begin that journey today.
