When God Draws Near

Today I was thinking about a day, about this time last year, when I called my sister to chat for a bit. Life can get busy, and we don’t always have time to talk during the week. During our conversation, she mentioned an event that was happening that day and asked if I wanted to join her. I thought, “That would be different, especially since I’ve been busy with ministry work all week, often until late at night.” So, I agreed to go, and we set a time to meet.

About an hour later, we were on our way. We started chatting, sharing about our week, and asking about each other’s grandchildren, as we usually do. However, before long, the conversation shifted.

Almost in harmony, we began discussing God and His word. She shared what God had been revealing to her, and I talked about my diligent study of communion. I explained how I discovered that communion is woven throughout the Bible, appearing in many more scriptures than I initially realized.

We then started sharing the ways God had worked in our lives, and suddenly, the tangible presence of God filled the vehicle. Tears began to roll down my face as I felt His powerful presence. For over an hour, we continued to talk about God and how truly awesome He is. It was one of the most anointed hours I have experienced in a long time, right there in the vehicle on the way to a craft show.

As we arrived at our destination, I made a remark: “Given what you’ve shared and what I’ve shared, it’s clear that God is calling His people to draw near.” I know that God is always close to us, my friend.

For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Heb 13:5)

At this very moment, I feel a profound certainty that His presence—rich and undeniably palpable—is surrounding us, inviting us to draw nearer. It’s as if the air is charged with His essence, beckoning us with a gentle yet irresistible call. Are you ready to respond to that invitation?

Isaiah 55:6 says, Seek the Lord while He may be found, all call upon Him while He is near.

What is it that your heart longs for from God today? Perhaps you find yourself yearning for healing as you navigate through life. Maybe your soul aches for the return of a wayward child, hoping they will find their way back to faith and embrace the warmth of God’s love once more. Or it could be that your marriage needs restoration, the delicate threads of connection frayed and longing to be mended. Perhaps, during these turbulent times, all you truly desire is a profound and abiding peace that calms the storms within. Whatever your needs may be, trust that God is ever-present, ready to hear your heartfelt cries and respond in a tangible way.

During our journey, the overwhelming presence of God enveloped us in ways I had not anticipated—yet it was unmistakably the reality we encountered. It felt as though God was so near, as if we could extend our hands and grasp Him. And indeed, we did. We felt that sacred connection, profoundly tangible and alive, as though we were walking hand in hand with the Lord, Himself.

Malachi 3:16 says, Then those who feared the Lord talked often one to another; and the Lord listened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who reverenced and worshipfully feared the Lord and who thought on His name. (Amp)

A book of remembrance is written by those who talk about God and reverence and worshipfully fear His name. This past weekend, words of remembrance were written concerning my sister and I as we talked about God and His mighty acts. I just love the thought of that, don’t you?

Dear friends, today, let your thoughts be firmly anchored in the presence of God. Seek Him in the quiet moments, speak to Him as you would a dear companion, and let your heart overflow with worship and gratitude. He is ever close, ready to listen – don’t hesitate to cry out to Him in your moments of need. Remember, His watchful eyes traverse the earth, searching intently for those who long to dwell in His embrace, eager to reveal His strength and power on behalf of those who call upon Him. May you be that one, experiencing the depths of His love and power in your life.
