One night, I had a dream that was really odd. As I pondered on it, God showed me what He was revealing to me through this dream. I want to share it with you today in hopes that it will help you as it helped me.
First I have to tell you what has been going on in my family. In the past few weeks there have been some issues between different family members that is causing division and stress. What is going on in one household is wrong and shouldn’t be happening, however, it doesn’t directly affect me. It does however, affect someone I love greatly. For this reason it has brought stress and concern and a great deal of frustration.
Consequently, I have received numerous calls about this situation; each time I get off the phone I have an intense headache. I finally told my sister that I couldn’t talk about it anymore. Although something had to be done about it, I couldn’t deal with it at that moment. You see I am the oldest and my sisters sometimes look to me for answers.
Now to my dream. I dreamt that I was home studying and walked into my living room. There were people sitting on my couch, this one woman seemed to be in charge, so I took her to the side and ask her what they were doing in my house. She said they were family and they had come to gather and talk awhile. I told her they couldn’t stay but she kept insisting until I said ‘fine, but not for long.’
They seemed harmless, and then they began to make themselves at home. They were eating my food and taking things that they shouldn’t have been taking. After a short while they began to destroy things. They began to break furniture and things, I told them they had to stop and get out of my house. They were not happy, but they finally left. That was the end of the dream.
As I worked this morning I thought about the dream and how odd it was, then God began to talk to me. He said ‘this stuff with your family, it is letting things in your house.’ He continued; ‘it is letting anger and evil speaking and things in your house that you normally keep out. If you continue to discuss these things they will begin to eat away at you and your house. They will become destructive, you have to get them out now. Remove yourself from this situation.’
Enough said. Just minutes later I received two phone calls about this situation and I told both people I could not talk about it, they would have to work it out themselves.
As I often say, it is vital that we don’t allow things in our house that are not pleasing to God, if we do, He will not dwell there. After the revelation of this particular dream, I had to do another house cleaning and a morning of repenting.
Ephesians 4:30-32 says; And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
We all know this scripture but for some reason when it comes to dealing with family situations we often forget it. We can’t forget it. When this scripture says to put these things away from you it means to violently remove them from your midst, close the door on them and refuse to allow them back in. That, my friend, is what we must do.
If we want the peace and presence of God to dwell in our house, we can’t afford to have bitterness, wrath, anger or ill speaking of others take place in our home. Or in our hearts. We must be kind and tenderhearted at all times.
If you find yourself in a situation as I did, remember this verse and remember my dream. Don’t allow these things in your home, if you do, they will begin to eat away and destroy all that belongs to you. Guard your heart and guard your home, make it a place that God is pleased to dwell. Make it His abode. As you do, the peace of God will reign in your home…His peace and His presence will dwell there. That is reason enough to do a major house cleaning, don’t you agree?
