And as He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove. Luke 3:22
I was listening to a message about this scripture recently. As I listened to this man of God describe this event, I began to ponder this message.
He expounded on the truth that God lives in each one of us. However, as he explained, God’s presence doesn’t rest upon each one of us all the time. In other words, although God lives in us, His presence isn’t always upon us in a tangible way.
I have had times in my life when the presence of God rested upon me physically, in a tangible way. I absolutely treasure those times. It was with those times in mind that I listened to this message.
The man of God then asked a question. He asked, “If the Holy Spirit came and sat upon your shoulder, how would you walk?” He answered his own question with, “you would take every single step with Him in mind.”
I believe this is the key to walking daily in the manifested presence of God. Taking every single step with God in mind. With the Holy Spirit in mind. With Jesus in mind. With the written word in mind.
I have read biographies of men and women of God who walked constantly with the tangible presence of God. This, walking in His continual, manifested presence, is my heart’s desire.
So then, how would you walk, if the Holy Spirit was resting upon you? Very carefully, I would think.
As I began to ponder this, I came across several scriptures. They give us insight into walking in this manner.
1 John 2:6 says; Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.
First, I believe we must walk in the word of God. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
Galatians 5:16-17 says; I say then, walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:22-24
If we desire the presence of the Holy Spirit to rest upon us at all times, we must walk as Jesus walked. We must walk in the word of God. We must walk in the light of the truth. And we must walk in the fruit of the Spirit. In love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
What is your hearts cry? Do you desire to walk with the presence of God within and upon you? That, as I have already said, is my heart’s cry. Therefore, we must begin to walk with the realization that the Holy Spirit is here wanting to rest upon us. We must take every single step with Him in mind. Doing nothing that will offend or hinder His presence.
Imagine with me today, the Holy Spirit, descending and resting upon you. Just as He did with Jesus. Now, take every step with Him in mind.
“Can you feel it in the air? It’s time for the birth of something wonderful!” KP
