A pastor I know often says, “When you hear a testimony, God releases the power of God into that testimony to DO IT AGAIN.” It is powerful to grasp that as we share a testimony, it carries within it the power to “do it again.”
For the past couple of weeks, God has been speaking to me about the power of testimonies. I want to share some scriptures about testimonies with you.
Deuteronomy 6:17 says, You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your god, His testimonies, and His statues which He has commanded you.
1 Kings 2:3 says, And keep the charge of the Lord your God; to walk in His ways, to keep His statues, His commandments, His judgements and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn.
Psalm 25:10 says, All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth for those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.
I find it interesting that God emphasizes testimonies alongside His commandments and statutes. Testimonies are that important to Him…and should also be to us.
As God began to speak to me about testimonies, I did a little word search on the following words:
Commandments: a code of wisdom, to command, and the Ten Commandments.
Statues: an ordinance, limits, prescribed portion, inscribed decrees.
Testimonies: testimony, that which you witness and evidence.
Even after additional study, I didn’t feel I had the revelation God was trying to get across to me. Then, I came across a teaching about the original Hebrew language and how their words create pictures. It opened my eyes to what God said about the power of testimonies. (I don’t recall the original author of this)
I was intrigued to find that the letters in the word testimony are as follows:
Ayin – to see, the eye.
Dalet – a door.
Vav – Hook, nail.
Tav – a sign.
From these original picture letters, we see that a testimony is an amazing thing. It depicts what we see, along with a door, into a miracle. It also represents a hook or nail and a sign.
So, what is it saying?
It is saying that when we hear or see a testimony, it is an open door—one that we can see. It is a sign to show us that through the testimony, there is also a door for us to walk through in which we can experience that same testimony or miracle.
We often witness this in the church. When someone stands up and shares a testimony of healing, others also receive the same healing. Why does this happen? As the testimony is spoken, it opens the door for the same power that brought forth that miracle, and others have the faith to believe it for their own miracle.
I have seen the power of testimonies many times in my life.
I have seen testimonies of miracles give others faith to receive a miracle for themselves. The testimony opened a door; as it was shared, it released the power for someone else to believe in miracles.
Romans 2:11 says, For there is no partiality with God. In other words, God is no respecter of persons; what He did for one, He will do for you. We have to take hold of it for ourselves.
Years ago, I heard a minister preach about a seed he had sown and what God did with that seed. He had sown a seed for God to provide him with a ministry—he wanted to do the work of the Lord, and he sowed into that desire. That day, it encouraged my faith to believe, and that night, my faith walked through the door of his testimony, and I sowed a seed. And God did the same thing for me! I have walked in the harvest of that seed for several decades.
Never forget the power resident within a testimony. It is like a seed we plant; in the fertile soil of faith, it will reproduce that same miracle. Friends, keep God’s word, absolutely! Also, remember to keep His testimonies and your own testimonies. Talk about them, tell your family and friends, and as you do, doors will open to transfer the power to see the same miracles! Why? Because God is just good like that!
