The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
I have read this scripture before, several times, but it has never quite captured me like it did yesterday.
The reason was an article I was reading in The Believers Voice of Victory magazine about a man who has a motorcycle ministry.
He shared how he once had a traumatic motorcycle accident while traveling to one of his ministry trips. He told how he hit a deer and went flying off his motorcycle. After being thrown down the road a great distance, he finally stopped rolling, mangled and bloody, he lay on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere.
It’s a miracle he lived to tell the story. There was one part in particular that captured my heart and reminded me of the scripture in Zephaniah.
As the story goes, months later, once he woke up from the coma, he wanted to share with his family what was going on with him, while he was in the coma. He said he had a story to tell them.
He said, the Lord asked him a question.
The question was, “Do you know what I was doing while you were lying on the roadside bleeding to death?” This man responded, “No.”
“I was singing over you. I held your heart in My hand and pumped. I breathed My life into your lungs. Now, you’re lying in My healing glory.”
Wow! Wow! Wow!
Doesn’t that just capture your heart?
We serve a God who parts the sea. We serve a God who created everything we see with our eyes. We serve a God who saves His people from a lion’s den. A God who delivers with a mighty hand. We serve a Mighty God, an Awesome God, there is none like Him in all the earth…there is No God like Our God…yet He sings over us.
I sat there, in awe, after I had read this story. I re-read the words over and over again. I belong to a God, my Lord, who sings over me. That is simply mind altering.
I thought about the precious few people I have sung over in my life. One immediately came to mind.
I sang over my dad, when he lay dying of cancer, taking his last breaths. As long as I was singing, he seemed to have peace. But when I would stop singing for a moment, he noticeably moved around and struggled. While I wanted to see him healed, he went to be with Jesus. I sang to him as he crossed over. I will never forget those moments; the I sang him into glory.
Other than that, I have sung over my daughter Breanne, when she was small and when she was in the hospital having Bryson. I sing over my grandchildren. I sang over them when they were small, and I was rocking them to sleep. I sang over them when they were sick and needed comfort.
One day, a few weeks back, I was rocking my new little grandniece. She was only two months old. I began to sing to her. Brailee from across the room said, “Uh hum!” I looked up and said, “What’s wrong honey?” She responded, “You can’t sing that song over just anybody, that’s our song.”
I love the tenacity in that little girl. She knew there were songs just for her and Bryson…she has heard them all her little life and they are treasures to her that she doesn’t want to share.
Did you realize there are songs God sings over you that are your songs, and they belong only to you? Isn’t that awesome.
God is singing over you today. When things seem bad, hard or almost impossible, He is right there beside you, singing and rejoicing over you. And this Nana knows…we only do that over the ones we treasure most…you, my friend, are one of those.
Meditate on this!
The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove Is heard in our land. Song of Solomon 2:12
