Did you know one of the remedies for trauma is to sing? I didn’t either until this last week.

Last week, my daughter had a bit of trauma occur in her life. She was working on her farm and rolled a four-wheeler. It landed on her and she was banged up pretty bad. We are so thankful to God as it could have been much worse. He has brought quick healing to her body and for that we are grateful and give Him all the glory.

With that being said, on day two after the accident, there was one thing in particular, apart from the pain and soreness, that was bothering her. She had a hard time swallowing, her throat felt incredibly tight. After doing a little research on what caused this she shared something with me. She said ‘when you suffer a trauma, often your lungs, chest and throat will tighten, at times it takes several days for it to get back to normal.’ She went on to say ‘they say one of the best things you can do to help it is to sing.’

I love when I hear things like this and God begins to show me things.

He first reminded me of the day I was bitten by a brown recluse spider. When that creepy thing went down my leg and I saw it, the first thing that happened was a song came up out of me. I began to sing at the top of my lungs…NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST ME SHALL PROSPER!

I didn’t even realize I had been bitten at the time, but in my spirit a song arose. Praise God it did because that weapon formed against me did NOT prosper.

The Lord began to remind me of time after time when I found myself in a hard place, I would begin to sing. It wasn’t something planned or something I thought of, it came up out of my spirit each time.

Colossians 3:16 says; Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

One way the word of Christ dwells in you richly is through singing!

Ephesians 5:18-19 says: And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart…

Ephesians shows us that if we want to remain full of the Spirit, we must sing!

We don’t just sing when we are happy or praising God…when we sing, we are strengthened. Remember Paul and Silas? They sang in prison, after being beaten. Their singing strengthened them and not only that, but it caused them to be set free.

Let’s look at some more scriptures about singing.

Psalms 5:11: Let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.

Psalms 59:16: I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.

Psalms 63:7: For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
Singing is good for the soul and apparently good for the physical body as well. Do you need joy? Sing! Have you experienced trauma or disappointment? SING!

Do you feel weak and in need of strength? SING!

Sing to the Lord a new song and allow Him to heal you and fill you with His joy and His strength!
