I love Independence Day. I love what it stands for. I love this great nation that I am so blessed to live in. I thank God for America as I continue to have hope and look for a coming revival!
I am thankful. I am grateful to have been born and raised here. I am thankful for all that America stands for. To quote The American Legion – “There is nothing wrong with America, that cannot be fixed with what is right with America.” – and to this I say AMEN!
I am also thankful for the men and women who pioneered this land, who braved the odds and the elements, escaped religious persecution, to found this nation on the principles of the Word of God. I am thankful for the men and women – past and present – who serve and protect our country, especially those who have sacrificed their lives so that we might live and live free.
Today, we can look around us and see all that is wrong in our nation, OR we can change our perspective and employ Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.”
We can choose to think on the fact that we still live in the greatest nation on Earth – a nation where we still have the freedom to worship Jesus and share his gospel. America has taken the call to spread the Gospel seriously as we have taken it to the world in word and in deed. For this I am truly thankful.
We have a military that willingly lays down their lives daily. In fact, there are millions of police officers, fire fighters, first responders and neighborhood watch-folk who got up this morning, left their families and are now are looking out for their fellow man as I write this message.
Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” What a privilege to live in this great land. And it is all because the foundation was laid on the Word of God.
Jesus set the example so many years ago when He gave His life freely on the cross for us all. He gave His life so that we could live free and share and teach others to live free as well. Jesus truly showed us how to lay down our lives for our fellow man, to treat others with mercy, and to have compassion on humanity. The very principles we, as believers, live by, were the foundation laid by our founding fathers.
As we celebrate our freedom, let’s not take it for granted. Let’s thank our men and women who protect this country daily. Let’s thank our preachers, teachers, police officers and firefighters who serve us with their lives daily. And most importantly, let’s thank the one who died so that all of this would be possible – Jesus Christ.
