I’ve Missed You

This is going to be a very personal writing. Very vulnerable for me.

It was around noon one day. The third day of a complete fast. During those three days, I had done nothing but study the Bible, pray and declare the word of God.

My entire three days were spent pressing into God in a way I had not done in a few months – through fasting and prayer.

I walked through my house and turned on my Communion playlist of worship songs, and they began to filter throughout my house. The presence of the Lord began to come on the scene when one song I just love began to play. As it did, I walked into my kitchen, raised my hands and began to worship.

The moment I began to worship, my wonderful Lord spoke to my heart and said, “I’ve missed you.”

These soft-spoken words humbled me beyond belief and to be honest, shocked me a little. I thought, “What do you mean? I have been fasting for three days, I have done nothing but read your word and pray? How could you miss me?”

However, I knew in my heart exactly what He was saying. Yes, I was spending time in the word of God, studying. I had prayed A LOT. However, I had neglected to spend intimate time with Him.

It is wonderful to stay in the word of God. I encourage that immensely. It is a good thing to spend daily time in prayer, seeking God for the breakthroughs you need. It is good to study and read different books, to watch anointed preachers – all those are good things.

However, we must also be intentional about cultivating intimate times with the Lord. He longs for those times with us. He misses us when we are too busy to stop and spend quiet time with Him.

Imagine if you are married, you have dinner on the table each night. You make sure your spouse has their clothes washed, a clean house and a pleasant wife but you need spend intimate time with them. Would that work? No, of course not.

It doesn’t work well with Jesus either.

I am convinced He is pleased when we read the word of God. I know He is pleased when we pray and bring our petitions to Him, trusting that He hears us and will answer us. But if we are doing all that and never seeking His face, never desiring to spend intimate time with Him, we are missing out. He wants relationship and so should we.

John 17:21-23 says:

That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

Three times in this passage of scripture Jesus said, “That they be one as we are one.” Jesus desires to be one with you and for you to be one with God. Isn’t that amazing!?

Friend, I encourage you today, make time for God. Make time for Jesus. Make time for intimate time in the presence of the Lord. Yes, He wants to see your prayers answered. He wants you to spend time in His word. More than anything else, He wants to spend time alone with you. Just you. Make time.
