During my prayer time this morning I was listening to worship music. I don’t recall the name of the song, but as I listened to the words a sweet story came to mind. The words to the song were ‘my heart beats for you God, I am so in love with you.’
As I let those words wash over me, I was reminded of something my little Brailee said to me a couple days ago. I just have to share it with you.
Allow me to set the stage first: Breanne was sitting on my sofa, knitting. Brailee was in my kitchen making her special kind of ‘soup’ and I was in my laundry room switching a load of laundry to the dryer. While I was doing this I was talking to God. Actually He had spoken something to me and I was answering Him…out loud.
From the other room I heard Breanne say ‘Mom, who are you talking to?’ I looked around the door at her and said ‘why do you ask?’ She replied ‘Because I need to know if I need to call someone to get you some help.’ She was joking of course, she is used to me talking out loud to God. However, little Brailee was listening to our conversation and she joined in. She said ‘No, Mom, it’s not like that, is it Nana?’ She went on to say ‘it’s not that at all, it’s all about being in love, isn’t it Nana?’
My heart melted as I replied ‘Yes, honey, it’s all about being in love.’
Just last night God spoke to me and said ‘I want you to get up in the morning at 3am and pray.’ I said ‘God, I will pray tonight but you know I don’t like to get up that early, but I will pray at 5am.’ He said nothing else to me. At three am, I awoke, bright eyed and couldn’t go back to sleep. I got up and began to worship God and pray. I laughed as I thought of the scripture that says ‘a man plans his ways but God alone directs his steps.’ It seemed He did just that with me. He is welcome to change my path at any moment, even if I don’t like it.
I love God. I know many who serve God but don’t really love Him. I don’t understand that. He is after our love. He desires our love and affection. He does not want people to do His will out of obligation or duty or fear…no, He desires we follow Him because we love Him, because our hearts beat for Him alone. I was reminded of that with a simple song today.
I think of King David, the Bible tells us that he was a man after God’s heart. He was not after God’s power or provision, he went after the heart of God. No matter what was going on in David’s life, he followed hard after God.
Regardless of how bad David sinned or went the wrong direction, he did not run from God, he always, always ran to God.
If we are going to have a loving relationship with God we must do the same thing. We must daily pursue God with our whole heart, mind and soul. We have to pursue Him with our thoughts and with our actions.
When you love someone, really love them, nothing can shake that love. Romans 8:38 says; ‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.…’
We all know this scripture. Nothing can separate us from God’s love for us. My question today to you is ‘do you feel the same way about Him? Can anything separate you from YOUR love for God? Can disappointment, delay, frustration, challenges or hurt separate you from your love for God?’ I know that is a hard question, it digs deep, but I believe it is a question we should ask ourselves.
All throughout the Bible we see time after time how God loves us. However there are also a few scriptures that talks about what happens when we love Him like He loves us.
I love the book of Psalms. Psalms 91 is one of my favorite passages of scriptures. I want to share a portion of it with you today. Psalm 91:14 says; ‘because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known my name. He shall call upon Me and I will answer him, I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.’
God loves us all, every single one of us, saved and unsaved, His love for us doesn’t change. Yet there are certain promises He has made, not to those whom He loves, but to those who love Him with an everlasting love. Psalm 91 is one of those scriptures. Because he has SET HIS LOVE UPON ME. Is your love set upon Him today? I know mine is…and yes, Brailee, it IS all about being in love.
