Lately, I have had a conversation from thirty years ago on my mind.
I was going through a difficult time. Standing in faith and believing God for breakthrough. A woman from my church came to me and gave me a word that has stayed with me all these years.
She said, “When it appears the breakthrough has come and the battle has ended, do not lay down your sword.”
I found this word applies not only in that time and situation, but in every situation.
I believe it applies aptly in the world we find ourselves in today.
As I said yesterday, this time will pass. Things will go back to normal. When they do, let’s hold fast to the lessons we have learned during this season.
And let’s make certain we do not lay down our swords.
Our sword is the word of God in our heart, coming out of our mouth.
Ephesians 6:17 says, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;”
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Personally, I believe we should increase our prayer life in the days to come. I know that is the only way we will walk in continual victory. He is our victory. His word, coming out of our mouth, ensures our victory.
We often have a tendency, especially when we have been through a battle, to want to sit down and take a breath. These last few weeks have been a battle for all of us. Like you, I would love to lay down my sword and take a deep breath and rest a while. But I cannot do that, neither can you.
We must keep our sword in our hand and His word coming out of our mouth.
Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
We will have what we say. There is no doubt about it. If you are declaring doom and gloom, you will have it. If you are declaring God’s will and plan – you will have it. We will eat the fruit of our lips, just as the word of God says.
Your sword is the words coming out of your mouth.
I encourage you, in the days ahead, hold fast to His word. Keep His word coming out of your mouth and keep your sword, firmly in your hand.

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Matthew 12:37
