Tuesday night I had a dream from God, over and over again I dreamed the same dream. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Many times in my life God has given me the same dream over and over again….it is simply a way he speaks to me.
The next morning when I awoke I was thinking about the dream. As I pondered on the dream a scripture came to mind. It is found in Joel 2:28; “It shall come about after this that I shall pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.”
Dreams have always been a language of God. I realize that not all dreams are from God, but I also believe that God speaks to us in dreams perhaps more often than we realize.
We see this ‘dream language’ all throughout the Bible. It was in a dream that God revealed to Abraham the history of the descendants he would have and their 400 year captivity.
Jacob had a dream laying on the ground with a stone for a pillow, where he saw ladders ascending and descending, where the angels went up to heaven and back down to earth.
We all know the dream of Joseph where he would one day rule over his brothers and father and we realize that Joseph was also gifted to interpret dreams.
Daniel understood the interpretation of dreams and was able to escape death by interpreting a dream for Nebuchadnezzar.
And it doesn’t end in the Old Testament. Joseph was told in a dream to accept Mary as his wife even though she was with child.
The wise men were divinely warned in a dream to return to their own county. And Pilate’s wife sent word to her husband to have nothing to do with Jesus because ‘she had suffered many things in dreams because of him.’ Dreams have always been a language of God.
People often ask me ‘how do you know if a dream is from God?’ I wish I could answer that question. I just know in my spirit if it is from God or not. It is vivid and I can’t forget it. I just know.
I believe God is speaking to many today through dreams and visions and I believe this is going to increase. Why do I believe that? Because the scripture says in verse 29; “Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”
This increase in dreams and visions is part of the pouring out of the Spirit of God and we are certainly in THOSE days. Those days where God is pouring out his spirit on all flesh. The question is ‘will we recognize that the dreams are from God?’ And if we do, will we heed them and take direction from them.
In the dream I had, God was showing me that something was coming but that prayer, consistent prayer would bring me through. This dream didn’t frighten me, it warned me. God dreams do not cause fear even if they are warning dreams. Fear is always from the enemy. God is a God of peace.
Today, I want to remind you that God does speak through dreams. Be alert and pay attention to your dreams. God is speaking….listen closely.
