I heard a statement this week that caught my attention. Frankly, it has stuck with me all week long. Each day it comes to my mind several times, therefore I am going to share it with you today.
The statement was “your excuses are hindering your blessings.”
An excuse is defined as; that which excuses; that which justifies a fault.
Ouch!
As I meditated on this today, I began to think about the different excuses I hear consistently.
I think the most prominent one for finances is this; “I can’t afford to tithe or give.”
Others I hear are; “it’s too expensive to eat healthy.”
“I know the word says we are healed but this disease runs in my family.”
“I tried standing on the word, it didn’t work.”
“I don’t have time to seek God and pray every day, I have too much to do.”
“I just don’t have faith for that.”
“I am not gossiping, I think we should pray for so and so, did you hear what they did?”
Or the best of all… “I believe the word of God but…”
Our excuses are hindering our blessings.
Remember, an excuse is something that justifies a fault. We have no business justifying a fault.
Oh, I know this is not a fun reading. If you are not making excuses, it isn’t even speaking to you. However, for me, I know I am guilty of making excuses in certain areas and I will do that no longer.
Those God loves He chastens, and I am thankful for any and all correction that comes from Him.
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. Proverbs 13:4
A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. Proverbs 10:4
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
All the above scriptures teach us the blessing of diligence. They also teach us the fruit of making excuses for not being diligent.
God has given us everything we need for a good life. Everything was purchased for us at the cross. All we have to do is believe it, receive it and act on it. Faith, without works, is dead.
Apart from God we can do nothing, but with God we can do all things. Nothing is out of our reach if we continue to walk with God. We do not need excuses. We have Holy Spirit living inside of us, nothing is impossible for us.
Today, ask yourself… “are my excuses hindering my blessings?” If the answer is yes, repent of using excuses to justify faults. Then move on. Don’t let any excuse stop you for another moment. Remove all hinderances and press into the blessings of God…they are already yours.
