For some of you this will be a hard read, and for others, it will be enlightening. For me, it was enlightening and hard.
I had a situation take place last week with a family member that caused me to be upset. As this incident stayed on my mind for a couple days, the Lord said to me, ‘don’t make it bigger than it is.’ Ahhh.
Wisdom speaking.
I began to think about a few people I am acquainted with who have drama in their life. What I mean by that is they have one problem after another. Every single day of their life it seems they have something negative to complain about and they are hardly ever thankful for anything.
They seem to get out of one mess and another one appears. And it is never their fault or their responsibility.
Drama, Drama.
I looked up some definitions for drama to find it means; a way of relating to the world in which a person consistently over reacts or greatly exaggerates the events. Drama usually comes from those seeking attention.
It went on to say that people who engage in drama will usually attempt to drag others into their drama to keep the attention on them.
I want to share some characteristics of those who love drama with you before I continue;
• Having one supposedly serious problem after another.
• Constantly telling other people about one’s problems.
• Extreme emotionality or frequently shifting, intense emotions.
• A pattern of irrational behavior and reactions to everyday problems.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I do not like to be around someone like that for very long.
We all have problems and we all need to talk to someone about them, however, when we have nothing but problems and we are always negative and never thankful for where we are, there is a problem.
If you have problems with people and you have the same problems over and over again, you need to ask yourself if the problem could be with you. The same thing with your job, if the same thing happens over and over again, you need to take a look at yourself and see if you could be the problem.
I have found in life, that even if I have a problem and then seem to have the same problem in another area, if I will take the time to be thankful, sincerely thankful for where I am, things often change for the better.
I have also found, if I continue to be negative and unthankful I will stay in that place much longer than I desire to.
Friends, we live our lives from the inside out. What is in us will come out in every day life. If we have life and light and faith in us, that is what will come out when we are in hard places. But if we have nothing be negative and gloom, doom and despair on the inside of us, that is what will come out. And it will be evident to everyone around us.
I love what Joyce Meyer says, ‘you can be pitiful or powerful, but you can’t be both.’ It is our choice.
So, God said to me, don’t make it bigger than it is…basically, don’t get into drama. He instructed me to pray and stand on His word and refuse to get in the drama of it.
As I was studying, I looked up antonyms for drama, or the opposites of drama. Do you know what they are? Calmness, quietness and peace.
Therefore, we can have drama and get attention, at least for a while. Or we can have calmness, quietness and peace in God.
Isaiah 26:3 says; You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.
Isaiah 32:17-18 says; The work of righteousness will be peace and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings and quiet resting places.
In my life, I refuse drama. I will not operate in drama and I won’t be around others who engage in drama.
In my life, I will have perfect peace for my mind is stayed on God. In my life, I will have quietness and assurance as I dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings and in quiet resting places…how about you?
