Over the weekend, I tuned in to an online message. While listening, I had a profound realization about myself. I discovered that I had unconsciously let go of some of God’s promises, one of which was particularly significant.
Even more significant, I realized that in the process of letting go, I had inadvertently limited what God could do in my life. Limiting God is never a good thing.
Psalm 78:41 tells us; Yes, again and again they tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
I love how this scripture reads in the Passion Translation.
Again and again they limited God, preventing him from blessing them. Continually they turned back from him and provoked the Holy One of Israel!
Did you know that we can limit God? But how is that possible? According to scripture, we can limit God by turning away from His promises, whether through His Word, prophecy, or a personal message He has spoken to us.
Hebrews 10:38 says, Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
As I started to reflect on these passages of scripture, I realized that there were certainly times when I had hesitated or drawn back concerning God’s promises. To draw back means to move away from something, usually because of fear or unbelief.
In my life, I had received a prophetic word over fifteen years ago that I had obviously moved away from. Drew back from. Why? My reasoning was that one person who gave it to me said it was linked to something I was doing at the time, and I was no longer involved in that project.
Yet, that same word had been given to me by two different people – therefore, according to scripture, it was established. It WAS God’s plan, then and now.
Have you ever received a promise or prophetic word from God that made sense at the time, but as the situation changed, it no longer seemed possible? That’s how it was for me.
Today, perhaps you, like me, realize you may have drawn back or moved away from past promises or prophetic words God has given you. Maybe you have let go because it no longer seems possible or because of doubt, unbelief, or fear.
The Bible is clear on two things: One, God has no pleasure in us when we draw back, and two, we limit Him from blessing us when we draw back.
Upon receiving this reminder, I took a moment to reflect on the areas where I have drawn back. The promises I have let go of or stopped standing in faith for. I acknowledged those areas and made a conscious decision to once again pursue those promises by faith, with passion and certainty.
God is bringing back to life our deepest desires and the promises or prophetic words He has spoken to us in the past. He is making it abundantly clear that His Word, as well as His promises, remains unchanged. We must stop placing restrictions on Him and remove all limitations. He desires to lead us to a place where we are fully persuaded that nothing, absolutely nothing, is impossible with God. I am determined not to limit God any longer. Instead, I am choosing to seize those promises today and press forward. What about you?
