I want to share a story with you that impacted me and I hope will strengthen you today as well.
One of my sisters lives on a farm with cattle. It is not very often that a cow gets out but every now and then one will escape. This happened not too long ago. On the road she lives people drive crazy. Although the speed limit is low, they drive extremely fast on this back road.
One day someone came to her door and told her a cow was out. She slipped on her shoes and went running down the driveway at about the same time she heard a vehicle barreling down the road at a high speed. She thought, “I hope they don’t hit the cow.” Just as that thought ran through her head, she heard a loud crash. The driver hit the cow. They were going so fast they didn’t slow down for some time. Apart from that they were totally distracted. I’m not sure if it was because of children in the vehicle or their cell phone. Either way, they hit the cow without ever touching their brakes.
My sister was sick. Her cow lay dying in the ditch. Police showed up and accessed the situation. They reported there were no injuries to the driver or passenger. The next move was to contact my sisters insurance company, which she did. In the meantime, they had to bury a cow.
A couple of weeks went by. Every day she thought about that poor cow. Then one week, papers showed up at her house. The woman who hit the cow was suing them for damage, as well as pain and suffering, currently and in the future. She was shocked and concerned. She stayed up all night worrying about it.
The following day she called her insurance company again. They informed her they already knew about the lawsuit and had taken steps to take care of it. They told my sister not to think about it another moment, that’s why she had insurance and they had an excellent attorney on this case. My sister breathed a sigh of relief.
She had shared all this with me on a phone conversation. When we hung up, I thought, “The battle was already taken care of, even before she knew there was a battle.” Of course, it brought several scriptures to mind.
I will go before you And make the crooked places straight. (Is 45:2)
And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed. (Deut 31:)
For you shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard. (Isaiah 52:12)
The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes, (Deut 1:30)
I don’t know about you, but it is great comfort to me to know there is a God who loves me, who will never leave me nor forsake me and who goes before me. He knows what is coming down my path before I do. He not only knows, but He goes before me and takes care of the battle before I even know there is one.
When He knows there are mountains ahead of you, that you have not yet seen, He goes before you and levels them – and He makes those crooked place straight. Before the battle even comes your way, He is already there. Don’t you just love that?
