A Taste of Harvest

It’s almost that time of year again. Time when we begin to see harvest in the gardens planted in my area. Almost, but not quite yet.

The first thing I do each morning is walk outside and look at my cucumber, bell pepper and other plants. I started seeing teeny cucumbers a week ago. I get so excited when I see them begin to form.

Today, I walked outside and saw a cucumber that was maybe three to four inches long. I was beyond happy at this very small sign of harvest. I knew in a few more days I would taste the first harvest of cucumbers, at least from my garden.

As I sat on my back porch, smiling at what was to come, I decided I just couldn’t wait. I walked over to the plants and pulled that cucumber off. I came in the house and peeled it and ate it. Ahhh, I thought, “The first taste of harvest.”

Those words exploded in my spirit even as I thought them. The first taste of harvest.

Now, to some it would not seem like harvest at all, it was, after all, a little bitty cucumber, not even full grown yet. But to me, it was harvest. My mind went to the scriptures about the parable of the sower.

And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” (Mk 4:26-29)

I don’t know how it grows. I only know I planted the seeds, they began to grow and produce a small cucumber, too small to eat, but they kept growing. I can tell you this; I do not have to wait until my cucumbers are full size before I know harvest has come. I knew harvest had come when I began to see a cucumber the size of paperclip. To me, that was the moment I knew harvest was upon me.

Why am I sharing this? Because we can’t wait until we see the fulness of our harvest to begin to get excited about it. We cannot wait until we see a full manifestation of the thing we are praying for before we thank God for it. We must see it with our spiritual eyes.

I remember, Brother Norvel always said to me, “If you can see it, you can have it.” When I first saw the forming of that little cucumber, I knew it would come to fullness in due time, I saw it in my heart. I have had no doubt. Each morning, I walk outside fully expecting to eat of my harvest and one day soon I will.

What are you praying and believing God for? Are you fully expecting it? Do you wake up each day thinking, “This could be the day!”

When I was trusting God for healing, one morning He said these words to me, “Little by little.” I can tell you, it was not what I wanted to hear. I wanted to wake up fully healed but I knew He was saying it would happen, little by little. Just a little at a time. I would have to walk it out.

Exodus 23:29-30 says; I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.

That morning I knew this was the scripture God was referring to. I also felt He was saying, increase needed to take place IN ME before I could receive the fulness of my healing. Why? I don’t know. But this is the way He chose to do it, and His ways are higher than mine. So, little by little, it began to take place.

Perhaps it is the same for you. Maybe, your harvest is coming forth a little at a time. Are you looking for the fulness of your harvest, or are you looking for a small sign that it is coming? Remember Elijah said he heard the sound of abundance of rain. However, his assistant saw nothing several times and then finally saw a cloud the size of a mans hand. Think about that for a moment. He saw the rain before there was a drop of water or a sure sign rain was falling. He knew the rain was coming even before the cloud formed the size of our hand. He saw it in his spirit. We must be the same.

The Bible says, “I will do a new thing, will you perceive it?” I truly believe that new thing from God is coming for one group of people – those who perceive it. Those who see it with their natural eyes. Those who can look with the eyes of faith and see rain instead of a small cloud. Those who perceive harvest is here even when they only see small growth. Are you one of those?
