A couple of weeks ago some friends came to my house to pray for me. They knew I was in a physical battle and wanted to pray and encourage me. I love friends like that, don’t you?
One friend shared with me a season she went through where she battled for her health. She shared how she didn’t think she would live through it.
She told me that while she walked through that season she did some things differently. She talked about how she watched teachings on healing 24/7. She prayed consistently and studied the word of God daily. She said that was all she did during that time and it brought her out of that season.
That conversation wouldn’t leave me for days. I thought and thought about how she did things much differently as she walked through a hard season and how what she did brought her out of that time.
It caused me to think about to the previous season in my life. It wasn’t a time of battle, but it was a time when I did things much differently.
I was working for Norvel Hayes Ministries at the time. Each morning, I got up and spent time with God and in His word. During that time, I confessed healing scriptures over myself daily. I confessed financial scriptures over myself and my household as well. Day after day I faithfully declared God’s word over myself and my family. No other words were spoken over me especially concerning healing and wholeness.
When I look back to that time, I realize, I did not battle one sickness. Yes, I was younger, but I didn’t even get a cold or flu during that season. That season lasted over seven years and not one time did I battle sickness of any kind. The living word of God kept me.
It also seemed that the things I was declaring over my body and my health lasted several years after that. The word of God is powerful and alive and always produces what it was sent to produce.
It was many years after that season that I began to have health battles. When I did, I would go back to confessing God’s word and spending time in His presence and healing would always come. Why? Because God is faithful. But, I was not so faithful to do that if I wasn’t going through a battle.
The question that came to mind as I thought about my friend and about that season of my life is this; if doing those things, spending time I the word, listening to preaching and declaring His word will bring us out to breakthrough – why don’t we do that all the time instead of just when we are in trouble?
I’m not being critical of her; I am being critical of myself. The truth is we can avoid many battles if we simply are consistent in spending time with God and His word. That’s not to say challenges won’t come, they probably will, but if we are constantly in His presence and His word, we may not be caught off guard.
If His word is surrounding our lives, His word will bring the deliverance we need. If we spending time listening to preaching and teaching, our faith will stay strong. If we stay in His presence, the Bible says He will move the mountains.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to go from breakthrough to breakthrough. Why? Because that means we will go from battle to battle. I don’t believe that is God’s plan for us. I believe God has called us to peace.
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. (Is 26:3) For us to remain in a place of peace, we must first keep our mind stayed on God.
Friend, don’t wait for a challenge to come to seek God. Daily keep your eyes on Him. Daily confess His word over you and your family. Daily pray. Daily read the word of God. This will not only keep you strengthened in God but will help you to remember that God has a good plan for you and your family.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jer 29:11)
Our hope and our future is in God. Let’s keep our eyes on Him, knowing He will not fail us. For many of us, we spend more time working or scrolling through our phones than we do in the presence of God. That will not help our faith. That will not keep us in peace, most times it will do the opposite. Let’s change this and spend the majority of our time in the presence of God, in His word and walking in His peace. That sounds good to me, how about you?
