There is a scripture that has been on my mind a lot these past few weeks. It is found in the book of Proverbs.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Prov 3:6)
Oh, I know it is a very familiar scripture, but today, I want to break down some of the words if I may.
Acknowledge – to find out and discern, to be instructed, to confess, to learn to know
Ways – journey, manner, habits, way of life, course of life and moral character
Direct – make paths straight and smooth
Path – way of living, way of life
This tells me in every situation, in ALL things, we are to find out and discern what the will of God is. Then we are to confess that instruction over our situation. As we do that, God will make our paths straight and smooth throughout our life.
This reminds me of Isaiah 45:2.
I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron.
I love how the Amplified Bible says it.
I will go before you and level the mountains [to make the crooked places straight];
God goes before us and levels every mountain. Do you have any mountains looming in your life today? If so, as you seek His face, He will level them – we have His word on it.
He also promises to make the crooked places straight in our life – that means we will be able to walk on a smooth pathway. I don’t know about you but that sounds good to me.
I am so thankful that we serve a God would can level mountains and go before us and make the crooked places straight. I am thankful, but I am also aware that we have a part to play in this scenario.
This takes place when we first acknowledge Him in ALL our ways. When we seek out His will in each situation.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I am good at acknowledging God in the big situations in my life, but I am not as good at seeking God’s will and plan in the small things that go on daily in my journey. Most times, when they are not important things or big things in my eyes, I simply think I know what to do and I follow my instinct.
I’m not saying that is a bad thing however, as I meditated on this scripture, I realized that it is important to seek Gods face and discern His plan in the little things just as we do in the big things. As I prayed into this thought, I felt God speak something to my heart. This is what I heard.
“If you don’t seek God in the small things, they may become the big things.”
Aha. That makes perfect sense.
Therefore, I have spent a couple weeks, intentionally seeking God in the small things just as I do in the big things. If I do this, according to the Word of God, He will go before me. He will level mountains. He will straighten my path. Then, all I have to do is to keep walking with Him.
That sounds like a good plan to me.
My friend, I encourage you to begin to seek God in the small things as well as in the big things. Get His perspective on everything that concerns you – as we do that, our life will be one of peace and purpose – that’s His desire for each of us.
