This past weekend, I was preparing for single digit temperatures that were coming our way. While I made things as ready as possible, I began to pray and talk to God. I talked to Him about the condition of my heart – I was telling Him that I want to have a heart that pleases Him at all times.
As I prayed that prayer, I was reminded of a song I sang over forty years ago. I feel led of the Lord to share it with you today. I don’t know who wrote it or who sang it, but it goes something like this.
I want my life to be pleasing to you; I want to do your will every day.
If I hold you up, you’ll lighten up my way, If I hold you up, there’ll come a brighter day.
When my life, here on earth is done, when I see the setting of the sun, when I see the sunlight going dim – I’ll wonder if my life was pleasing to Him.
I sang that old song to the Lord from the depths of my heart. It IS the cry of my heart to be pleasing to Him. In every way. There is no offense, no hurt, no betrayal, and no disappointment that is worth holding onto if it is displeasing to God.
In Matthew chapter 7, we see a sobering verse.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (22,23)
The Amplified says it like this.
Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands].
I don’t know about you, but this set of scripture causes me to walk in the fear of the Lord. According to this scripture, we can walk in the gifts of the Spirit, cast out devils and do mighty works and yet, still hear Jesus say, “Depart, I don’t know you.” I can’t imagine anything worse, can you.
My friend, I don’t know why God wanted me to share this old song with you today, but I feel strongly that He did. I love sending out writings that are encouraging and uplifting and most of my writings are. However, every now and then, God prompts me to send out something to cause us to look at our heart.
Today, ask yourself and ask God, “Is my life pleasing to you God? Do I do Your will every day? At the end of my days will I be confident that my life was pleasing to You?” These are questions we should ask ourselves on a continual basis.
I don’t want anything standing between me and God, I want my life to be pleasing to Him. How about you?
That is so like Him! I was just singing in my heart “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, my God”
Thank you for sharing with me. Please hold me up in prayer to be pleasing to God and bring honor to His name. I truly appreciate you sharing.
